Mosaic Law Curriculum Guide

Our 4th Grade - Kitah Daled class meets on Sundays, 9:30am to 12:15pm and Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15pm to 6:15pm

As students continue their study of Judaism in our school, we feel it is important to create a warm, supportive, loving, and challenging atmosphere.  Our curriculum seeks to involve our students in living, learning, and celebrating Judaism.  By experiencing Judaism, we hope to foster positive feelings, encourage a love of Torah and tradition, and impart knowledge that will help each student build a positive self-image.  There are several different subject areas; each grade builds and expands upon prior knowledge.  While there is a review of previous material, there are new materials, skills, and concepts that are introduced each year.

Goals of the Class:

  • Familiarize students with the mechanics of the Chumash (p'sookim and p'rakim - chapter and verse);
  • Study the Parshat Hashavua;
  • Study Jewish History (emphasizing Prophets and Writings);
  • Introduce the students to the laws of Kashrut;
  • Introduce and compare Sephardic and Ashkenazic communities and customs;
  • Understand the Jewish calendar, including the study of Rosh Chodesh;
  • Continue developing an appreciation of Israel's place in the political and geographical world in which we live; and
  • Create an environment in which students' inquiries are encouraged, and students’ potential is challenged.
