Journeys

This program was launched in 2006 for 6th and 7th Grade B’nai Mitzvah Families.

The overall goal of the program is to create a greater feeling of bonding and understanding between students and parents, and to help families make a meaningful transition into being/parenting teens.  We want to strengthen the 6th grade community (including all who are MLC members who may not participate in the MLC religious school program), and to help the Bar/Bat Mitzvah teen understand their connection to the larger Jewish community.  There are four 6th grade Journeys Workshops and one 7th grade workshop.

All sixth grade families are invited to and expected to participate in the Journeys program.  Rabbi Taff and I work together to create a useful and fun learning experience for both parents and their teens.  We use text study, role playing, discussions, and individual exercises as ways to explore various topics.  At times, to enrich the experience, families will be given short assignments to complete at home.

Workshops take place on MLC’s Youth Activity days from 9:30am-11:00am; this will enable parents and teens to participate in the session before attending the youth program.

Please feel free to give me a call at 488-1122 if you have any questions or thoughts you would like to share with me.
