Kehillah Religious School

Kehillah, a joint partnership between Mosaic Law Congregation & Congregation Beth Shalom (Reform), serves the Sacramento Jewish community by offering twice-weekly classes from Pre-K through 7th grade. Classes alternate between the two campuses and holiday programming is shared between the two as well.

Children who are members of Mosaic Law learn from their siddur: Congregation Beth Shalom children learn from their siddur, respectively. Teaching staff are represented from both synagogues.

Hello K'tantanim Families,

I remember my grandfather telling me that when he had Passover as a child in Russia, there was no parsley for karpas. His family would use the only vegetable they could find: potatoes. My family kept the tradition alive for years and I was well into my 20s before I learned that not everyone has a potato on their seder plate.

I share this story because I was thinking about Passover this year. We may have to get really creative and start thinking about what we can use in place of our normal Passover items. Today, I made a couple of seder plates and filled them with items around the house. Watch my video and see the seder plates I made without leaving my home:

I attached a document of the seder plate symbols, with a brief explanation of each symbol. Make a homemade seder plate with your child and see what items you have at home that can stand in place of traditional seder plate items. Items do not need to be edible and can be a creative or traditional as you would like. Take a picture and send it to me.

Also, have your child watch this video to learn a little more about Passover and its traditions:

I will send you another email in a few days with more fun activity ideas to keep you connected to Kehillah. I miss all of the kiddos. Stay safe and healthy!
