Miri Levine: 3rd & 4th Grade

I was born and raised in Israel. I knew by the age of 5 that I wanted to be a teacher. My dream came true when I was chosen to serve as a soldier/teacher in the IDF. My service was filled with joy and accomplishments. I helped new students who emigrated to Israel from Russia and Ethiopia learn Hebrew and integrate into Israeli culture.

I attended Haifa University where I studied Bible Studies, Psychology, and Literature. Following graduation, I became a middle school teacher. Not long after, I met the love of my life, Ariel. He was visiting Israel from Sacramento to attend my best friend’s wedding. I moved to Sacramento and immediately began teaching at Shalom School and Mosaic Law.

I have twin boys, Adam and Daniel, who are now in their junior year of high school, and a daughter, Sophia, who just started middle school.

I pursued my passion for learning and deepening my knowledge in Jewish studies at Hebrew Union College where I graduated with a Masters in Jewish Leadership and Education. Every day, I wake up happy and satisfied because I have the privilege to do what I love. I see it as a calling to teach our Jewish heritage and traditions to new generations of Jewish students.

In my free time, I love to cook, read, and spend time with my family and friends. I am excited to embark on my 18th (Chai!!) year with your children!

Samatha: 5th & 6th Grade

Samantha and her family have been a part of the Mercaz and Mosaic Law community since 2016. Both of her daughters attend Mercaz and she has served as chair of the Religious School Education committee for 4 years and Midrasha Coordinator for the past 2 years. After completing a Masters in Middle East Studies in Israel and making Aliyah in 2010, she returned to the Sacramento area to raise her family. She works as the Marketing Director for at Regpack, a registration & payments software company. She brings a passion for involvement in Jewish life and education and enjoys being a part of the Mercaz community. She is excited to add Tefillah teacher to the list of ways she can be a part of and share her knowledge with her Jewish community and looks forward to learning and growing with the 5th and 6th grade students this year.

Rachel King: 7th Grade

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I was bat mitzvah at 13 and worked in my synagogue’s religious school from then until 21. I have a bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies with a focus in History. After running a before and after school program for 7 years I returned to school for my teaching credential. I received my teaching degree from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. I moved to Sacramento to teach fourth grade at Shalom School. At Shalom School, I took on many roles including teaching fourth grade general studies and Judaic Studies as well as kindergarten Hebrew and Judaic studies. During this time at Shalom School I also taught two years at Congregation Beth Shalom. I was their seventh grade B’nai mitzvah program teacher. I’ve spent the last year subbing in the local public school districts and I’m excited to get back to teaching at Religious school.
