Israel’s Global Journey: History, Politics, and Identity
Online Adult Education Experience
January-June 2027
Can we make sense of Israel’s story without treating it as an abstraction or morality play? While there is no simple shortcut to understanding this complicated place, it's worth considering especially in these troubled times.
If you’re struggling with this or are just curious about the topic, we invite you to embark upon a complex and emotional journey in a fully synchronous online adult education offering where we’ll explore the amazing account of Israel’s existence against the backdrop of global affairs from 1831, predating the modern state, to the present. More than history or political science, we’ll not only learn, but actually experience, the stories, decisions, triumphs, and tragedies that influenced what has become, and is now recognized as, the State of Israel. In the process, we’ll explore over 80 countries and several empires, most of which are familiar, and some, perhaps not.
Please note that this is not about rhetorical advocacy and will not be presented in the form of myths and facts. As such, it's less for those interested in debating than for those wanting to learn how global and domestic considerations, along with culture, theology, and psychology, helped shape 200 years of history, politics, and identity.
While the course won't make you an expert on Israel or the Middle East, it will give you the tools to analyze this extremely challenging region for you to develop your own opinions and draw your own conclusions. As many alumni have attested, it will also improve your understanding of other international affairs, making an increasingly complex world feel a bit more approachable.
